Climate change, various crises and shocks are affecting agri-food and ecosystems by threatening food and water security. One of the highest impacts is addressed to climate change in combination with water scarcity and the observed trend of increasing extreme events. To improve the resilience and responsiveness of agro-ecosystems during a process of transformation and climate change adaptation we need to increase our knowledge on management impacts on system’s key components such as the water cycle. Case studies dealing with water footprints, risk assessment and farmer’s perceptions are important contributions to identify promising adaptation pathways of agriculture to climate change.
